Now I’m trying to make up for my lack of posting by posting twice in one day. I had a little time on my hands yesterday and got back into online fashionista mode. I checked into www.Firstview.com to discover what direction fashion knitting is taking. In my opinion Laura Biagiotti is one of fashion’s knit design eminences. I was more than inspired by what I saw on Firstview in her Spring 2006 collection.

I have to at least try those rayon cables as a top.

Her crochet goes way beyond the Edwardian derivatives we see in most modern day crochet styling for dresses.

These are the freshest Irish lace designs I’ve seen in a long time. You go Laura.

This is Bad Penny from www.knitty.com, a cute short sleeve top down raglan. Knitty has become my favourite pattern source. I don’t know when I’ll get to knit anything else. My plan for now is to master the top down raglan, by knitting Bad Penny (and gain a cute top in the process). I love techniques that minimize post knitting finishing. Once the technique is mastered I will be able to convert other patterns to top down raglans. But there is a down side: carrying around an entire garment while you knit. I am only a third of the way through Bad Penny, and it is already a little awkward on the subway.

Yesterday I finally cast off the first Pomatomus sock (photo pending). To celebrate I cast on a neck down raglan sweater to knit on our road trip to Montreal this weekend. I and the Zakrzewski clan are driving to Montreal. DH’s mother has a friend who lives in Montreal, or that’s what she told us when she initially added this trip to her itinerary, while still in Poland. When DH finally spoke to the friend to get directions we discovered that she lives outside of Montreal in a Saint-Bruno – “the prettiest town in Quebec”. We will find out this weekend. So we have rented a mini van to drive DH, his mother, his father, his sister, her eight-year old son (the new Dennis the menace), and myself to Quebec. My kids have developed alternate plans. Just as well since I don’t know how and when we are going to see Old Montreal on this schedule. I’m just going to go with the flow and knit my sweater.

Last weekend the Zaks went to Guelph and DS and I went to Chatham for the annual reunion of my father’s school buddies and family. It was a glorious weekend. Beautiful weather. I spent most of my time lying on a blanket in the apple orchard. I only got up to eat or refill my glass with Jamaican rum punch. Every summer weekend should be like this.
